Pyxis

Artist-Roger Fund(Credit line, not artist)
Year- Around mid 18th Century
Dimensions and Material- 4 1/8 x 11 1/4 in, Terracotta, clay
The pyxis pottery were invented and innovated for storage. Many people and citizens would store small durable items and also these Pyxis were found in graves. These small pyxis may have been the beginning to what we call Tupperware in today’s era. These pyxis were hand held object that could be used for many universal elements.  Like many early ancient Greece artist the artist to this particular pyxist is unknown completely. This Geometric piece of art brought about new innovation and style to the normal pottery-drawing depictions that were so common. I chose this piece of art because I admired the form of Tupperware that it brought to the world. This shows us students in today’s era that knowledge and creation goes far beyond books.
