Baptism of Christ

Artist-Reiner of Huy
Year- sometime Between 1106-1118
Material and Dimensions- Bronze or Bass, 2 feet wide and 1 foot high, Classical style.
-Reiner of Huy was a bronze worker from Belgium. Reiner was a Romanesque sculpture and bronze worker who was known with many others for their metal work. Reiners work is said to revive the classical style of the Roman Empire.Reiner was also known for making crucifixes and Brussels.  On this art piece you will notice oxen on the bottom quarter of the piece. These oxen represent king Solomon and reference the molten sea. This piece represents the baptism of Christ. For Christians this is a very touching and historical piece of art that allows viewers to grab a visualization of the past. John the Baptist is shown to be baptizing Christ which is the main thesis in this piece of art. Much time was given into the detail in this piece of art by Reiner. This piece of art is important because it arguably revived the classical art development and depicts a different story to tell for history. Viewers say that Jesus has bo beard in the sculpture. I chose this piece of art of Reiner because I thought that it brought a different style of story telling for artist to start innovating.(Gardners, Klenier)
